holiday gift guide: gifts for him

A Nice Everyday Cologne
I am not the subject matter expert here, but this is Bailey’s favorite cologne - she actually bought me for our wedding. It’s a nice fresh scent that is not overbearing whatsoever yet sophisticated enough for special occasions.

Golf Hitting Net
This was a parental leave purchase, believe it or not… highly recommend for amateur and avid golfers is alike looking to get a little extra practice at home. This helped my game a lot and he is a fun pastime activity. The net is quite compact and fit in our back patio area nicely and is easy to breakdown and store (assembly is just like a camping tent). To complete the purchase, bundle with the soft practice balls and hitting mat.

Indoor Practice Putting Green
While we are on the topic, every golfer knows that putting is unquestionably the most important part of the game. Guys be honest, raise your hand if you’ve done the hard work to set up a birdie putt just to leave the green disappointed with yet another bogey… This practice green rolls up nicely, fits on the shelf in our garage when not in use, and has a ball return ramp for continuous practice.

Theragun
This was a clutch item, particularly during my marathon training. An excellent gift for avid runners and athletes looking to improve their recovery time after workouts.

This Nice, Reasonably-Priced Watch
This has always been my favorite watch brand, it is the perfect combination of sophisticated and affordable. I particularly like the leather strap as it can be worn in both professional and casual settings. Pro tip: Highly recommend buying from Macy’s, that way when the battery dies or if you lose a screw, you can get it fixed at your local store.

My Favorite Fitness Watch
Another watch! The functionality of this one as a runner's watch is second to none. The watch tracks distance, heart rate, elevation change, stride cadence, steps and sleep. This was an invaluable tool during my marathon training and in my opinion is a level above the Fitbit watch.

Bluetooth Shower Speaker
Anyone else precariously balance their iPhone in the shower caddy? No more! The Bluetooth speaker in the shower is one of those little luxuries in life that is surprisingly not universally enjoyed given how inexpensive Bluetooth speakers are these days. Highly recommend, a great addition to maximize relaxation during shower time - which is especially precious time as a new dad.

Drill and Drill Bit Set
This drill is the real MVP around the Sexton house. I use it constantly for DIY projects whether I am hanging curtains, picture frames or drilling pilot holes for heavy duty projects, this is a real time and effort saver. As everyone else’s dad probably said too, “Work smart, not hard!” Must-have item for your handyman.

Fun Golf Shirt
You don’t need to be a golf pro to dress for success on the course. Success is really in the eye of the beholder - for me, a successful day at the course involves losing less than half a dozen balls, drinking a few beers and having a good time. These golf shirts exude “guy who is here to have a good time.” Another great option can be found here.

Hawaiian Shirt
As y’all know, I love me a good Hawaiian shirt. Tommy Bahama is simply the best brand out there, worth paying up for the quality. Hawaiian shirts are great for beach days in the summer and an under-appreciated year-round option for hanging with friends.

Flex Khaki Short
These shorts are great for casual, everyday wear and come in a variety of colors. Length is 9 inches universally with various waist sizes - as a very tall person, at 6’6” these run ever-so-slightly short for me but all my other guy friends swear by these shorts.

Movement Shirt
This Faherty shirt is probably the most comfortable button-down I’ve ever worn. Perfect for date nights or daytime outings at breweries. Also comes in a few different colors.

My Favorite Running Socks
Highly recommend these socks for runners or really anyone who is on their feet a lot. Before upgrading my socks, I had a lot of issues with blisters and these socks immediately resolved that. I am not running much these days but still wear these as my everyday socks.

Virtual Reality Set
If you were looking to splurge on one item in your holiday shopping, this would be a great choice. We were gifted the oculus virtual reality headset during parental leave - it is an amazing escape from daily life! Pro tip: Beat Saber is the must-have app on the Oculus.

Men's Bamboo Fleece Pullover Hoody
The sweatshirt is the softest fabric in existence - it is my go-to loungewear for lazy days around the house. It’s a simple style that can be worn with just about anything whether the vibe of the day is athletic, errands or a lazy day on the couch. Multiple colors available.

Car Detail
Last year for Christmas we had our car detailed and it was magical. Google search your local car detailing service - the difference between DIY and a professional detail is beyond words.

My Favorite Sunglasses
Oakley’s have always been my favorite brand of sunglasses - I feel it is more of a sporty style than Ray Bans or other high-end brands. Whether I am on the tennis court, golf course, at the pool or really anywhere, these are the shades for the job. Pro tip: get a Dickey strap to avoid losing yours in the ocean… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nice Duffel Bag
This duffel bag is a great option for business travel – it’s carry-on size and easy to navigate through security/access items without needing to dig through a rolling carry-on.

High-Quality Leather Work Backpack
A leather backpack is such a convenient item for going into the office or on work trips. It really dresses up a backpack to have the same feel as a briefcase, but with the benefit of having both hands free. As with any professional wares, there is a wide price spectrum - there are plenty of look-alike options that fit the bill without breaking the bank. Another less expensive, but equally-nice option, is linked here.

Dressier Leather Sneaker
These are my go-to work shoes lately. The leather dresses up the look of the shoes, but with the superior comfort of a sneaker. These go great with khaki pants and are perfect for work travel. The versatility of these shoes is a space saver when packing for trips, too.

Sleek Leather Wallet
This wallet is compact and much thinner than other options out there. Ask anyone, for years I sat on a wallet resembling a small tennis ball - this has to be doing wonders for my back!

Travel Toiletry Bag
Another travelers must-have item, the sub compartments in this bag make it easy to pack and access all of your toiletries. The bag is made out of a durable material that has endured many years of heavy use yet is no worse for the wear. It is compact with no wasted space - especially useful for travel-size toiletries in your carry-on luggage.

Cooler Backpack
This cooler backpack gets A LOT of use. It is perfect for picnics, hiking, tailgating or hauling ice cold beer down the street to hang with our neighbors. The dry outer compartments are great for napkins, utensils and snacks, too.

RTIC Cooler
RTIC uses the same technology as YETI for a fraction of the price – this cooler keeps ice frozen for days and days. This is an essential item for tailgating and camping given the amazing longevity it keeps ice. We opted for the medium size cooler which has been perfect, you would need to pack A LOT to justify the large. Add some stickers to personalize it!

Bluetooth Meat Thermometer
None of us guys were born grill masters, that distinction is earned through a years-long process of trial and error. A Bluetooth meat thermometer certainly helps reduce the learning curve and is the perfect tool to grill steaks and burgers just right every time. In addition to real time temperature tracking, the Meater app also offers up recipes and grilling tips.

Nice Beer Glasses
I am all in favor of enjoying an ice cold Budweiser straight from the can; however, pouring it into a nice glass keeps it classy, especially when hosting. No shame in my beer game, but out of the glass I could be drinking anything – perhaps it’s a trendy IPA, but most likely not - we all know what I’m really drinking.

Beer Fridge
We love our beer fridge that we keep in the basement next to our bar. Despite its compact design, the fridge fits a surprising 100+ cans as advertised! This is especially clutch given there never seems to be quite enough fridge space to accommodate our grocery hauls, let alone chilling enough beer to host a party – as I like to say on my DOTD cameos, “Drink up!”

Solo Stove
Full disclosure, we do not own a solo stove… yet! We have a perfectly functional propane-powered fire pit, but the moment that thing breaks we will be upgrading to the solo stove. You just can’t beat the smell and heat of a real fire, and the solo stove is no/low smoke so you get the best of both worlds (i.e., you don’t stink like a Smokey rascal for the next 24 hours)!

Nice, Comfortable Slippers
Winter is coming… Nothing like a comfy pair of slippers to beat the cold. The best part about these L.L. Bean slippers is the rubber sole bottom so you can slide these on before walking the dog out in the elements/snow. Genuinely, slippers that are indoor-use only miss the mark and I find myself getting a lot less use out of those given the need to switch shoes before heading outdoors.

Cordless Beard Trimmer
Since the early days of Covid, I committed myself to the bearded life. There are two types of beards generally, lumberjack / wild-man style and a well-groomed beard. To each their own, but Miss Bailey is certainly in the latter camp and having a high quality beard trimmer makes upkeep a breeze.

CBD Cryofreeze Roll-On
This CBD Cryfreeze roll-on has been part of my post-run recovery routine and provides a relieving cooling effect for sore muscles (similar to Icy Hot, but actually helps with healing as well). I have also been using it post-op for my shoulder stiffness. This would be a great stocking stuffer for anyone you know who 1) exercises, or 2) has any aches and pains. Use code BAILEY for a discount until November 6th.
